There is a song from the Broadway show, The Boy from Oz, called “Everything old is new again”. That’s true for so many things in life and certainly true in design. Case-in-point is black and white checkerboard floors; this classic flooring evokes memories of retro 50s kitsch or grand Hollywood Regency and is, at the same time, fresh, modern, and so 2012.

The most memorable & effective spaces have a touch of the unexpected in them. They possess yin & yang. Masculine & feminine. The use of barn doors in interior spaces does just that. Adaptable in both tradition & contemporary homes ~ a barn door can add some industrial chic & rustic charm to a home.

Orange has come a long way. It’s never been a color that was very high on my personal radar, but I have to admit, the clear, vibrant oranges that are showing up in clothes, accessories, and design have me coming around. Pantone’s color of the year is orange ~ it’s a lively, cheerful hue called tangerine tango.
