A salon wall, also known as a gallery wall, is a grouping of paintings & art objects that are arranged in an inventive & authentic way; it most usually happens when you had collected each piece over time. Salon walls can trace their roots back to the French 17th century where various artists hung their work in a wall-to-wall, floor-to-ceiling rumpus of paintings for the patrons of the salons. There is no symmetry in a salon wall & it is truly a charming way to pull together a collection or a grouping of disparate pieces.
The salon wall below uses all black frames, all in a very clean-lined style ~

The next several photos show that you do not have to have your frames matching & that you can add in unframed art & other collectibles flat enough to hang on a wall ~

And, this gallery wall consists of all white frames only ~

So, consider grouping together your smaller pieces of art on a gallery wall for huge impact.
