James Haycraft finished more than a minute ahead of his closest rival to win the 2012 Tri Latta Triathlon at Latta Plantation Park in Huntersville Saturday. Jennifer Leiser of Charlotte edged 15-year-old Malia Ellington of Cornelius in the women’s race. Meanwhile, Summit Coffee in downtown Davidson on Friday night hosts the Summit Solstice Race + Festival, a 4-mile race followed by a post-race party featuring the local band Cast Iron Filter. And there’s a Charity Chase mud run for Support Our Troops Saturday at Abersham Park in Davidson. Read the full story

Fifteen-year-old Jason Huber of Huntersville won the Davidson-Cornelius Child Development Center 5K run in downtown Davidson. He clocked 18:10, four seconds ahead of Robert Mayo, 23, of Charlotte. In third place overall was Malia Ellington of Cornelius, the top woman finisher, in 18:45.
A total of 124 people finished the race, which was part of this year’s Presbyterian Sports Medicine Running for Our Communities Series.
The race was a fund raiser for the nonprofit Davidson Cornelius Child Development Center, on Gamble Street in Davidson. Read the full story
