Davidson Day School on Friday introduced Joel Justus as its new basketball coach and dean of student life. Justus was hired after a national search to replace former coach Ron Johnson.
Justus has been basketball coach and assistant director of admissions a Woodberry Forest School, a boarding school in central Virginia,. In four years there, he led the Tigers to a Virginia Prep League regular season title in 2010 and two appearances in the conference championship game. Read the full story

Davidson College pitcher Henry Sisson has been attracting national attention this week for a no-hitter he threw last Friday, April 13, to lead the Wildcats over Wofford, 1-0.
On Thursday, the freshman left hander received two more national accolades for his feat, which was the sixth no-hitter in Davidson baseball history. He was named to the College Baseball Hall of Fame National All-Star Lineup and also named as the CollegeBaseballInsider.com National Pitcher of the Week. Read the full story

Brent Long of Cornelius, who is sponsored by Visit Lake Norman, won the Missouri tournament last weekend.
BRANSON, Mo. – Brent Long of Cornelius said a wrong turn led him to a lucky fishing spot that helped him win last weekend’s national Walmart FLW Tour Major tournament on Table Rock Lake in Missouri. Long caught 20 bass weighing 78 pounds, 13 ounces to grab first place and the $125,000 prize. Read the full story

Irish golfer Seamus Power won $15,000 and an honorary one-year membership to River Run Country Club after winning the eGolf Tour’s River Run Classic last Friday, March 30.
Power, from Waterford, Ireland, shot a 70 Friday to post a three day low of 16-under-par 200, and capture his first eGolf Tour title. Read the full story

Davidson resident and Woodlawn School rower Forrest Daugherty finished 12th among 211 competitors Sunday in the junior lightweight (under 165 lbs.) division of the World Indoor Rowing Championships in Boston. He was at the championships with his father, Ed Daugherty, and his coach, Lou Berl, who coached (or rather “coxed”) him through the event. Read the full story

We all know the New Jersey jokes. Snooki news? Hot news from TV’s “Jersey Shore?” Possible VP choice for Governor Chris Christie? But it all pales in comparison the idea of bringing Formula One racing to the streets of Garden State. Never say never when talking to Davidson resident Tom Cotter.
Tom has been named the President of Formula One Grand Prix of America with the responsibility of bringing Formula One racing to New Jersey for the first time next year. A motor sports veteran, Tom has an impressive resume. Humpy Wheeler, former president of Charlotte Motor Speedway, who will serve as a consultant to the race, has the following comment about Tom, “His leadership skills, motorsports savvy and unflappable temperament are the right combination for this enormous undertaking.” Read the full story
