Katrin Chiemeka scored a career-high 19 points, including 13 in the final 7:21, to lead Davidson to a 61-54 women’s basketball victory over Appalachian State Saturday afternoon in front of a season-high crowd of 1,271 at Belk Arena.
The win gives Davidson sole possession of first place in the Southern Conference, having swept the season series versus Appalachian. It was the Wildcats’ season-best eighth straight victory and their 17th win in the past 20 games.
Chiemeka shot 6-for-7 from the floor in the second half and scored 16 points. Sophia Aleksandravicius collected 10 points, nine rebounds and four blocked shots in the game. Read the full story

Sophia Aleksandravicius
Davidson College’s Sophia Aleksandravicius was named the Southern Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Month on Friday, the second time this season the junior star has won the honor.
Aleksandravicius also was the league’s first player of the month back when the season opened in November. She also was league’s weekly Player of the Week for games from Jan. 24-30.
