MOORESVILLE – Olivia DeMarcus scored in overtime to give Hough a 2-1 victory over Lake Norman a state 4A girls soccer playoff Friday night at Lake Norman. The win sends the Huskies into the women’s 4A regional finals. They will face the winner of Saturday night’s semifinal matchup between Myers Park and West Forsyth. Read the full story

Two standouts on W.A. Hough High School’s football team will be helping to revive the sport at Stetson University in Florida next fall. Seniors Dre’an Long (running back) and Griff Vari (offensive line) on Wednesday signed letters of intent to play at Stetson next season. Read the full story

Dre’an Long plunged in for a 1-yard touchdown in the final minute to help Hough High beat Vance, 33-30 Friday night at Hough Stadium in Cornelius.

Jimmy Boyd pitched a one-hitter to lead Middle Creek over Hough, 2-0, in the first game of their NCHSAA Division 4A baseball championship series Friday night in Durham. Game 2 of the best-of-three series will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Durham Bulls Athletic Park. If the Huskies tie the series at 1-1, the deciding game will be at 8 p.m. Read the full story

West Charlotte beat North Mecklenburg 54-49 Wednesday night to knock the Vikings out of the state 4A boys’ basketball playoffs. Meanwhile, both area women’s teams still in the playoffs – Hough and Hopewell – also saw their seasons end with losses Wednesday. Read the full story
