Justin Reitz of Cornelius cruised to victory Saturday morning in the Ada Jenkins Center “Fire” 5K. The 29-year-old Cornelius runner clocked 17:26 on the course through the West Side and Exit 30 area of Davidson. Jean Hargett, 53, of Mooresville was the top woman finisher, and 14th overall, in a time of 22:25.
A total of 165 runners completed the race, which was part of the third annual “Fire” event, a barbecue festival and fund-raiser to support the center’s programs. Read the full story

Ex-Wildcats, including Stephen Curry and Bryant Barr, will return for April 30-May 1 dinner and 3-on-3 basketball tourney fund-raiser.
The Davidson College men’s and women’s basketball teams will host the third annual Davidson “BUZZKILL,” a 3-on-3 tournament, dinner and auction, April 30-May 1, to raise money to prevent the spread of malaria and provide health education in Africa. Read the full story

Raeford’s Barbershop in downtown Davidson will conduct prize drawings April 30 for a pair of autographed basketballs – one by Davidson College turned NBA star Stephen Curry and another by NBA Charlotte Bobcats owner Michael Jordan. The drawing will come during the Gethsemane Baptist Church youth basketball 3-on-3 tournament Saturday, April 30, at Davidson College Belk Arena.
Tickets are $5 each and can be purchased at Raeford’s Barbershop, 206 S. Main St., Davidson.
