Davidson Day School football player Ricky Smith won the defensive most valuable player award at the Football University 8th grade unlimited weight all-star game played in the Alamodome in San Antonio Jan. 8. Gruber wins Cannon Invite, other local runners shine

Tim Gruber won the 13th annual Cannon Invitational Cross Country Invitational boys’ race on Saturday, Sept. 17, on his home 5K course at Cannon. Lake Norman Charter School won the team title with 73 points, edging North Raleigh Christian with 77.
In the girls’ race, Lake Norman Charter’s Sarah Hardin and Stephanie Zaino finished second and third to help their team to a second place finish behind Jay M. Robinson High School. Read the full story

Winning a high school state championship is always a big deal. Winning when your star player is taken out of the picture by injury makes it even more amazing. At Davidson Day School this weekend, it happened twice.
In a ceremony on its athletic field Monday afternoon, students and staff at the private school celebrated N.C. Independent School Athletic Association championships by both the girls’ soccer team and the boys’ track and field 4 x 200 meter relay.
