Davidson College’s baseball team will play its final home games of the 2013 season this week at Wilson Field on the Davidson campus. The Wildcats will host Duke Tuesday and N.C. Central on Wednesday, the latter a game added to the schedule. First pitch for both games is at 6 pm. Read the full story

A trio of area runners has organized a 2.62-hour run in Charlotte Sunday to honor victims of the Boston Marathon attacks and to support a local family directly affected. Meanwhile, this weekend brings the annual “Miles for Marnie” 5K and fun run, raising money for the Marnie Jude pediatric cancer foundation. And Community School of Davidson’s athletics boosters are the beneficiaries again this year of the Town Day Road Race, on the Davidson Village Green May 4. See our Running Calendar below. Davidson College’s baseball team plays UNC Greensboro Friday night at Wilson Field in Davidson, and it will be “Baseball Bayou Bash” night. The first 1,000 fans will be treated to a free crawfish boil, Canecuh County sausage and other refreshments. Read the full story

A panel of speakers including Davidson College athletic director Jim Murphy and other Wildcats coaches will examine “Ethics in Sports” Tuesday night. Also on the panel will be swimming coach John Young, and conditioning coach Jon Rowan.
The panelists will address several high-profile ethical infractions that have occurred in recent years in the NCAA, the Olympics, cycling and baseball, and reflect on the extent to which they are rooted in misplaced goals and incentives.

Two partners in a local athletic clothing business – one a former U.S. Olympian – have teamed up to stage a big race Saturday in Cornelius that’s the first of its kind in the area. The inaugural American Two-Mile road race is begins at 8:45am Saturday at Jetton Park, on Lake Norman.
Davidson residents Todd Mayes and Anthony Famiglietti are directors of the area’s first-ever open 2-mile road race featuring top athletes from around the Southeast. Read the full story

Men’s basketball at Davidson College has been popular for decades while the women’s basketball team has always taken a bit of a back seat. That will change, if residents at The Pines at Davidson retirement community have anything to say about it.
A devoted group of local seniors, including Nyra Brannan, Jean Berg, Martha and Reid Montgomery and Joanne and Bill Rawson, is talking up the team, and urging residents to get out and see the Cats’ final home game this Monday, March 4. Read the full story
