North Mecklenburg High School basketball coach Duane Lewis said it’s easy to compare Bernard Sullivan to some of the school’s all-time greatest players.

Sullivan is a 6-foot-8, 220-pound junior forward with scholarship offers from Charlotte, Clemson, Davidson, N.C. State, Penn State, Virginia and Virginia Tech. Florida, Georgetown and Maryland also are recruiting him but have not offered, Lewis said.

Alex Thompson passes career 1,000-point mark

Davidson’s women’s basketball team lost its third straight, and second loss in three days on the road, falling 65-54 at University of Tennessee-Chattanooga. The win gave the Lady Mocs their 11th straight Southern Conference regular season championship.

The Wildcats’ Alex Thompson had 16 points in the game, which left her with 1,003 career points at Davidson. She’s the 13th Wildcat woman to achieve that level. Continue Reading

Stephen Curry has a busy weekend ahead of him in Dallas for the NBA’s 2010 All Star Weekend.  The point guard for the Golden State Warriors will be playing in the Rookie Challenge tonight and then be among six in Saturday night’s Three-Point Shootout.

The T-Mobile Rookie Challenge will pit a team of rookies that includes Curry against a squad of NBA sophomores.  Curry will be facing his Warriors teammate, Anthony Morrow. Catch that game on TNT starting at 9 p.m. Eastern Time tonight.  The rookie team this year will be trying to break the sophomore’s nine-game win streak.

Saturday night, Curry will be among six chosen to compete in the Foot Locker Three-Point Shootout, which will be part of a show that starts at 8:30 p.m., also on TNT.  Reigning champion Daequan Cook of the Miami Heat will seek to become the sixth player to capture consecutive titles.  Continue Reading

BOONE - Donald Sims scored 25 points, including 19 in the second half, to lead Appalachian State to a 66-56 Southern Conference win over Davidson Thursday night in Southern Conference action at the Holmes Center.

Will Archambault recorded the 1,000th point of his Davidson career on a foul shot 4 minutes and 47 seconds into the game. Archambault is the 38th player to score 1,000 career points for the Wildcats.

The Golden State Warriors were without leading scorer Monta Ellis Wednesday night, but they needn’t have had any worries. Rookie and former Davidson star Stephen Curry took over the floor, scoring 36 points and leading his team to a 132-102 drubbing of the Los Angeles Clippers.

It was another in a series of best nights ever for Curry (he is a rookie, after all) and included his first-ever “triple double” – double digit figures in points (36), rebounds (10) and assists (13). That’s something he never managed even in his days as a Davidson Wildcat. Continue Reading
