Chris Horvat of Cleveland, Ohio, ran away with the first Summit Twilight 5K race in downtown Davidson Friday night, leading the pack of nearly 200 runners in a time of 15:11. The 26-year-old runner finished a minute and 1 second ahead of 15-year-old David Hager of Davidson. Stephanie Schauder, 19, of Huntersville topped the women, clocking 18:39. Continue Reading

Cannon School played its first-ever N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association football playoff game Saturday afternoon, beating Christ School 37-27. The two schools battled closely for three quarters, when the Cougars trailed by a point, 27-26. Hough High School’s boys’ soccer team’s quest for a state 4A championship was cut short Wednesday night on home turf as it lost to Ardrey Kell 1-2 in the first round of playoffs. The top-seeded Hough Huskies were favored to win, and went into the game 19-1-2. The Ardrey Kell Knights went in at 14-5, with a No. 4 seed in their region. Continue Reading

Davidson College’s men’s soccer team tied College of Charleston, 2-2, Tuesday night at Alumni Stadium. Wildcat Allen Page scored with less than four minutes left in regulation time to tie the game. Davidson and Charleston then failed to score in two 10-minute overtimes.
The win means the Cats will play Appalachian State at home in the opening game of the Southern Conference men’s soccer tournament Sunday. Continue Reading
