Billy Thom, a 2011 Davidson College graduate, is the new director of operations for the men’s basketball team, Coach Bob McKillop announced Wednesday.
Thom, from Cold Spring, N.Y., joined the men’s basketball program as a student manager during his freshman year. He worked his way up to the title of student director of basketball operations as a junior and senior. In that role, he served as the video coordinator for the Wildcats and assisted in film exchange, travel preparation and opponent scouting. Read the full story

Davidson sophomore guard Chris Czerapowicz scored a game-high 27 points to lead the Sweden U20 Team in a European Basketball Championship preliminary game against Greece Thursday. Greece defeated Sweden 86-82.
Czerapowicz was 12-for-19 from the floor and 3-of-5 from 3-point range while grabbing six rebounds. He averaged 3.5 points and 1.9 rebounds in 21 games during his freshman campaign at Davidson after missing the first 11 contests with an injury.

Left-handed pitcher Chris Lamb and right-handed pitcher Andy Bass were selected by the Oakland A’s (11th round) and Tampa Bay Rays (18th round), respectively, on the second day of Major League Baseball’s First-Year Player Draft on Tuesday. The duo became the 22nd and 23rd Wildcat players ever picked in the pro draft. Meanwhile, a Florida wrestler is poised to become the first woman ever to wrestle on the Davidson men’s wrestling team. Amy Krakauer
Davidson-based triathlete Amy Krakauer won the women’s title Saturday, May 21, at the USA Triathlon Aquathlon National Championship in Longmont, Colo.
Krakauer had a combined time of 44:12 for the 5k run and 1,500 meter swim. The win makes her eligible for the national team for the 2011 World Championships in Beijing in September. Read the full story

Davidson Day School said Tim Weir is stepping down as athletic director at the end of the school year because of a family move. Meanwhile, Davidson Day’s Bernard Sullivan got co-MVP honors at the recent Jordan Brand Classic basketball game in Charlotte. Homer Smith, head football coach at Davidson College from 1965 to 1969, died April 10, 2011, at his home in Tuscaloosa, Ala., after a long fight with cancer. He was 78.
“It’s sad news for Davidson football, for all who knew Homer Smith, and for the entire community of college football,” John Kilgo writes on DavidsonWildcats.com.
