Davidson resident and Woodlawn School rower Forrest Daugherty finished 12th among 211 competitors Sunday in the junior lightweight (under 165 lbs.) division of the World Indoor Rowing Championships in Boston. He was at the championships with his father, Ed Daugherty, and his coach, Lou Berl, who coached (or rather “coxed”) him through the event. Read the full story

Davidson Day School football player Ricky Smith won the defensive most valuable player award at the Football University 8th grade unlimited weight all-star game played in the Alamodome in San Antonio Jan. 8. He was among several Davidson Day players who excelled on a national stage at All-America games this month. Read the full story

Asheville School beat Southlake Christian, 21-71, Friday night in the semifinals of the N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association Division II football playoffs. The win advances Asheville School to the championship game, against First Assembly, which beat the Cannon School 28-3 in the other semifinal. Read the full story

CHARLOTTE – Davidson Day School beat Trinity Christian, 41-26, for its first N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association Division III championship Friday night at Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte. Quarterback Will Grier completed 25 of 40 passes for 300 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Patriots. Read the full story

Cannon School played its first-ever N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association football playoff game Saturday afternoon, beating Christ School 37-27. The two schools battled closely for three quarters, when the Cougars trailed by a point, 27-26. A Blake Brewer field goal and a Jason Willix rushing touchdown in the final quarter made the difference. Read the full story

Hough High School’s boys’ soccer team’s quest for a state 4A championship was cut short Wednesday night on home turf as it lost to Ardrey Kell 1-2 in the first round of playoffs. The top-seeded Hough Huskies were favored to win, and went into the game 19-1-2. The Ardrey Kell Knights went in at 14-5, with a No. 4 seed in their region. Read the full story
