Jackson Mauze ran 19:04 to win the Spartan 5K Road Race on Town Day Saturday in downtown Davidson. Alana-Lee Siddon was the top woman, clocking 22:25. Meanwhile, Davidson College junior Andrew Lantz won the 800 meters Friday at the Bob Pollack Invitational at Clemson University. Also below, a list of upcoming races, including three next weekend: the Jetton Park Triathlon in Cornelius, the Run Wild 5K and Wild Child Fun Run at Birkdale in Huntersville, and the Our Boys 5K and 10K in Concord. A trio of area runners has organized a 2.62-hour run in Charlotte Sunday to honor victims of the Boston Marathon attacks and to support a local family directly affected. Meanwhile, this weekend brings the annual “Miles for Marnie” 5K and fun run, raising money for the Marnie Jude pediatric cancer foundation. And Community School of Davidson’s athletics boosters are the beneficiaries again this year of the Town Day Road Race, on the Davidson Village Green May 4. See our Running Calendar below. KANNAPOLIS – - Top drivers from the worlds of NASCAR and the NHRA will face off in a charity slow-pitch softball game on Wednesday at CMC-Northeast Stadium in Kannapolis. The event will benefit The Armed Forces Foundation and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.
NHRA Top Fuel driver Bob Vandergriff and NASCAR star Kurt Busch came up with the idea for the game as a way to raise money for their favorite causes and give fans a chance to meet drivers in a different setting. Read the full story

U.S. Olympian Anthony “Fam” Famiglietti of Davidson won Saturday’s Run Too Overcome 5K in downtown Davidson, in a speedy 14 minutes, 53 seconds. Millie Driggers of Huntersville won the women’s division in 22:28. Martin Harrison of Davidson easily won the 10K, in 37:39, while Georgia Brotherton of Huntersville was the top woman, in 43:12.5.
The races attracted more than 250 total runners, and a related 1-mile kids’ fun run brought dozens more. The event raised money and awareness for special needs education in area schools. More information is at run2overcome.com.
