Davidson quarterback Jonathan Carkhuff has been named the Pioneer Football League Co-Offensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Wildcats’ 35-7 win over Johnson C. Smith Saturday night.
Meanwhile, Wildcats’ wide receiver Lanny Funsten was named the College Football Performance Award FCS National Performer of the Week at his position. Also this week, Brenton Goodman earned an honorable mention accolades at his position.

Quarterback Jonathan Carkhuff threw five touchdown passes, including a school record 99-yarder to Lanny Funsten in the fourth quarter, to lead Davidson over Johnson C. Smith, 35-7, Saturday night at Richardson Stadium.

The W.A. Hough High football team earned its first I-Meck 4A Conference victory in school history with an impressive 21-7 decision over Vance on Sept. 16. That win over the Cougars, a team that advanced to the 4AA regional finals in 2010, made it clear that the Huskies are no longer the conference doormat they were last season when they failed to win a league game. For seniors such as defensive back Johnathan Cureton, the Huskies’ conference milestone is a source of immense pride. Read the full story

CORNELIUS – On many occasions this fall, Hough High School football coach Bobby Collins has said his second-year program must play tough on defense and special teams to win. That philosophy was put to the test after starting quarterback Josh Stilley was sidelined two games into the 2011 season with a wrist injury.
Since then, the young Huskies met Collins’s challenge head on, holding Providence to just 3 points in their only victory of the season on Sept. 3. The following week, Hough’s defense kept an explosive Berry Academy’s offense in check, coming up just a bit short in an 18-7 loss. The Berry game dropped Hough’s record to 1-3; nonetheless, the defense has kept the Huskies within striking distance the past two weeks against more established opponents. Read the full story
