Baseball teams from both Hough and Hopewell high schools were knocked out of the playoffs with losses Tuesday. Hough’s Huskies, who made it to the NCHSAA 4A finals a year ago, were shut out 15-0 by TC Roberson of Asheville.
Roberson, now 18-1, moves on to the next round Friday vs. Olympic. The loss ended Hough’s season at 16-12.
Olympic advanced with a 5-3 victory over Hopewell. Olympics record stands at 22-7. Hopewell ends the year 16-10.

MONROE – Hough High’s baseball team opened the 2013 state 4A playoffs with a 5-1 victory at Sun Valley Friday night. Pitcher Brandon Casas had a complete game, striking out nine batters and giving up 3 hits and non earned runs. Read the full story

Jack Kolls pitched his third straight shutout to help Davidson Day School beat First Assembly of Concord, 6-0, in an N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association baseball playoff game in Concord.
The win advances the fifth-seeded Patriots (18-4) into Tuesday’s semifinal of the Division 2-A tournament against No. 1 seeded Westchester Country Day (20-6). Read the full story

John Goss and Tyler Stevens combined for a 1-hit shutout to lead Davidson Day School over Kerr Vance Academy, 10-0, in the first round of the NC Independent Schools Athletic Association 2A baseball playoffs Wednesday. Patriot hitters had a big day as well, led by Kendon McLaurin, who went 3 for 3 with a home run, a double and 4 RBIs.
Davidson Day, now 17-4 overall, plays again Friday, facing First Assembly (13-8) at 6pm at Webb Field. Read the full story
