The 2010 Southern Conference Basketball Championships begin Thursday in Charlotte, and wind up with title games Monday. The Davidson College men’s team is seeded third in the South Division, while the women are seeded No. 6.
Early round games are being played at Bojangles Coliseum off Independence Boulevard. Saturday and Sunday games are at Time Warner Cable Arena downtown.

Davidson men’s basketball freshman JP Kuhlman has been named the Southern Conference Freshman of the Year in a vote by the league’s head coaches. In a lineup announced Wednesday, fellow Wildcat frosh Jake Cohen joined Kuhlman on the conference all-freshman team.

In other awards, South Division champion Wofford picked up two top awards: junior forward Noah Dahlman was named Player of the Year, while and Mike Young was Coach of the Year. Read the full story

Davidson beat Elon 99-96 in a double-overtime marathon Saturday night at Elon in the final game of the regular season. The game swung from a 16-point Davidson lead at one point in the first half to as much as an 11-point Phoenix lead in the second half before winding up tied at the end of regulation.

Davidson College beat Furman 65-52 Saturday afternoon in the final game of the women’s basketball regular season at Belk Arena. Junior Ashley Lax scored 24 points to lead the Wildcats.

Wofford, which beat Davidson twice this season, drew the top seed in the South Division of the Southern Conference men’s basketball tournament March 5-8 in Charlotte. Appalachian State won the North Division to capture the other top seed in the tourney, which will be played at two sites: Bojangles Coliseum and Time Warner Cable Arena.

Davidson’s men ranked third in the South Division and will play a first-round game in the league tournament for the first time since 2001. Read the full story

Davidson beat UNC-Greensboro 60-56 Wednesday at Belk Arena in a Senior Night game that was the 100th career victory for seniors Will Archambault, Bryant Barr, Steve Rossiter and Dan Nelms.

It may have been Senior Night, but freshmen were a big part of the Wildcats’ win: JP Kuhlman had 14 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists, while Jake Cohen had 13 points as the wildcats improved to 15-14 overall, and 10-7 in the Southern Conference. Read the full story

Wednesday night is Senior Night at Belk Arena, as the Davidson men’s basketball team takes on UNC Greensboro in its final home game of the year. It’s also the final home game for four Wildcat seniors: Will Archambault, Bryant Barr, Dan Nelms and Steve Rossiter. They’ll be honored before the game. Read the full story
