A group of local road race directors have are banding together this year to create a series of nine 5K and 10K races that will benefit local nonprofits throughout the region. Meanwhile, we also have results of two more Saturday races, including the Run Too Overcome at W.A. Hough High School in Cornelius and the Angels 5K at North Mecklenburg High School in Huntersville. Anthony Famiglietti of Davidson ran away from the field at the Summit Coffee Leprechaun Loop 8K Saturday night, finishing nearly four minutes ahead of the second place finisher in the race along local streets and greenways. Jill Rafiee of Huntersville was the top woman finisher in the race, which attracted 235 runners and raise money for Levine Children’s Hospital. Read the full story

PORTLAND, Oregon — Davidson is known for multiple offensive weapons, but in Thursday’s NCAA tournament opener, it was the No. 4-seeded Louisville Cardinals who had too many scorers for the Wildcats to handle.
Three Cardinals’ scored in double-digits, led by Peyton Siva with 17 points, as Louisville defeated No. 13-seeded Davidson 69-62 at the Rose Garden. Read the full story

PORTLAND — Bob McKillop is keeping it simple.
“Handling the basketball and getting a good shot every possession,” Davidson’s head coach said are the keys to beating the Louisville Cardinals in the first round of the NCAA men’s basketball tournament on Thursday.
Makes sense. Ball possession is one area the No. 13-seeded Wildcats have a distinct advantage over the No. 4 seeded Cardinals. Despite their run-the-floor style of offense, the Wildcats handle the ball well, turning the ball over on only 17.2 percent of their possessions. That ranks 13th among teams in the tournament and 22nd in the country. Read the full story
