Davidson College’s athletics department has scheduled a press conference Wednesday morning for an undisclosed announcement. College officials haven’t confirmed anything, but rumors have been circulating for weeks that the Wildcats might be close to leaving the Southern Conference and joining the Atlantic 10.
People associated with the college said Tuesday night the Atlantic 10 move would be the subject of Wednesday’s press conference, which is to begin at 10:30am at Baker Sports Complex. The event is open to the public and will be streamed live on DavidsonWildcats.com.
As rumors first surfaced last month, college officials on April 15 would not confirm the conference change, but acknowledged a move was possible. “A strong Southern Conference is in our best interest, but we have to consider all options best for Davidson in this volatile environment,” the college said then.
Davidson’s men’s basketball team won the Southern Conference tournament in Asheville this year, and the women’s team clinched the regular season title before falling in the final at Asheville.
On Tuesday, ESPN reported that Davidson would be joining the A-10, citing an unnamed source.
