49ers oust Wildcats from Women’s NIT, 72-60

CHARLOTTE – UNC Charlotte pulled away from Davidson with a 19-8 run in the final minutes Sunday afternoon to win 72-60 and advance to the third round of the Women’s NIT basketball tournament at Halton Arena.
The loss ended Davidson’s season with a 22-13 record. The 22 wins tied last year’s total for the second most in the program’s history.
Sophia Aleksandravicius led the Wildcats with 18 points, Hannah Early had 13, including a pair of three pointers, and Jasmine Calin had 12 points.
Charlotte had four players in double figures, led by Jennifer Hailey with 22. Jai Forney and Hillary Sigmon had 13 apiece and Ny Hammonds had 12.
At 26-5, Charlotte moves on to face the winner of Florida-Winthrop.
Aleksandravicius, twice the Southern Conference Player of the Year, ended her career setting seven all-time school records, including points (1,878), rebounds (1,143) and blocks (339).
