Registration is still open with a $10 discount for the Ada Jenkins Center’s Fire 5K this Saturday morning through the streets of Davidson. It’s a fund-raiser for the regional social services center, and is followed by the day-long Fire BBQ festival and competition. Also this weekend is the 2012 Be the One 5K at Jetton Park in Conrelius, a fundraiser for bone marrow donation. Meanwhile, registration is open and volunteers are needed for the Thunder Road Marathon and 5K coming up in Nov. 17 in Charlotte.
ADA JENKINS FIRE 5K
The Ada Jenkins Center Fire 5K is scheduled in Davidson on Saturday, Sept. 29, over a course through the west side of Davidson. The race is part of a day-long festival that includes the Ada Jenkins FIRE BBQ competition.
The raise supports the work of the Ada Jenkins Center, a regional community services center at 212 Gamble St., in Davidson that offers education, crisis assistance, and health care, an after school program and other community programs.
Runners will save $10 if they register in advance for the race. The entry fee $25 now, and $35 the day of the race.

BE THE ONE 5K AT JETTON PARK
The Be The One 5K is planned this Saturday at 7:30 a.m. at Jetton Park in Cornelius. It’s a fundraiser for the bone marrow donation group Be The Match Charlotte.
The event features a 5K run and walk option for both adults and youth, and offers chip timing for those runners interested in a competitive experience. The 1K fun run or walk is for adults or youth and for children ages. There’s also a short “Tot Trot” for kids five and younger. The courses wind through the walking paths of Jetton Park, on Lake Norman.

THUNDER ROAD MARATHON
Registration has begun for both runners and volunteers at this year’s Thunder Road Marathon, scheduled Saturday, Nov. 17, in Charlotte. Both individuals and groups are invited to volunteer for the event the week of the race.
The following volunteer positions are needed from Tuesday, Nov. 13, through Saturday, Nov. 17: Health & Wellness Expo Support, Airport Welcome Booth, Information Kiosk, Packet Distribution, Registration, Signage Help on Course, T-Shirt Distribution, Baggage Area, Start Line Assistant, Finish Line Support, Lead Bike Escort, and Driver Assistance. For those interested in volunteering for the race and expo area, can register online at http://runcharlotte.com/volunteers.htm.
