Four Lake Norman area tennis teams and several local players claimed victory in the USTA League N.C. State Championships in Pinehurst in July. Then, the men’s senior 4.0 team went on to win the USTA Southern Sectional Championships July 31 in Mobile Ala. They’ll represent the Lake Norman Tennis Association when they play for the national title in November in California.
The Adult Women 4.5 champions are Arlene T. Conger, Courtney Luce, Theresa Sandy Krull, Kelly S. McCarney, Monica Nee, Jennifer S. Gaisbauer, Diane L. Ward, Diane M. Mulkey, Diofra Azucenas, Elizabeth C. Meiners, Kim S. Kurani, Kirby Crotts, Susan Stinnett Tippett, Marta H. Schmitt and Melissa A. Melendez.
The Senior Women 4.0 champions are Sue M. Schultz, Connie C. Poore, Margie Howard, Michele Murphy Burton, Susan Lunsford, Carolyn R. Faist, Annie N. Perrino, Gordon Jacobs, Jane Dwiggins, Ann H. Taulborg and Jill A. Hulse.
On the men’s side, the Senior Men 3.5 champions are Michael F. Klenck, Bruce Molinaro, Nicholas Guglielmi, Mark S. Swanson, Steven Hankins, Scott Lunsford, Gary Lewis, Colin Davis, Joel R. Crisp, Robert Peter Genovese, Ted Schultz and Larry D. Young.
Champions in the Senior Men 4.0 division are Louis Duncan, Scott Darden, Jeff Watson, Jim Illing, Robert U. McManus, Bill Leonard, Chuck Capehart, Jeff Moser, Gary Davis, Steve E. Baughan, Russell E. Walker, Robert C. Smith, Nelson E. Elam, Pradeep Kumar and Zachary Scott Stroupe.
USTA League, the country’s largest recreational tennis league, has more than 330,000 players nationwide competing in match play.
