Seven members of the Lake Norman YMCA gymnastics team competed in the YMCA National Gymnastics Championships June 28 – July 2 in Milwaukee, Wi. The competition hosted more than 1,700 athletes from YMCA across the country.
Hannah Madsen (level 4) scored her season best for an all-around score of 35.85; Aya Rose (level 5) was third all-around and on the beam; Lindy Heyl (level 5) was second all-around, first on beam, and second on bars; Kelly Morris (level 6) was first all-around, second on bars, first on beam and floor. The Y Angels’ level 7 team, Cassie Shue, Emma Yeakley and Nicole Yeakley, left the meet having competed in new skills and earning season bests on events at a national competition.
The Lake Norman YMCA gymnastics program is gearing up for their fall AAU and spring USAG seasons.
“The YMCA is very fortunate to offer competitive programs that allow gymnasts to be successful at a national level and provide them with the flexibility to still be kids,” Y Angels coach Michelle Ingham said. “We are pumped about the 2013 YMCA Nationals, hosted in Savannah, Ga. With the Olympics around the corner, it is an exciting time for gymnastics.”
