Davidson Day School football player Ricky Smith won the defensive most valuable player award at the Football University 8th grade unlimited weight all-star game played in the Alamodome in San Antonio Jan. 8. He was among several Davidson Day players who excelled on a national stage at All-America games this month.
Smith recorded 4 sacks and picked up a fumble and ran it in for a TD capping off the East’s 40-14 win in the game. Patriots Ronald Albritton (Guard, 15U Team USA), Jake Helms (Guard 8th grade limited weight game) and Garrett Groulx (DE 7th grade unlimited game) all started for their respective East teams and all came away with victories.
Robert Washington starred at running back for the East squad in the Semper Fi Junior Rank 8th grade All American game in Tempe, Ariz. Robert accounted for more than 150 yards rushing and receiving in helping his team win. Aapri Washington started at cornerback for the East in the 7th grade game in Tempe. To participate in the Semper Fi Junior Rank All-American games, a player must carry at least a 3.0 GPA. Robert and Aapri are both honor students at Davidson Day.
Jordan Young participated in the Proving Ground Elite 100 national combine as part of the Semper Fi Junior Rank weekend in Tempe.
Will Grier was named to the Max Preps 2011 Sophomore All-American team. Will is listed as a QB on the 2nd Team offense.
