Jake Cohen reached the 20-point mark for the fifth consecutive game, and the Davidson defense held The Citadel to 17 percent shooting in the first half as the Wildcats topped the Bulldogs 80-51 Saturday night in John M. Belk Arena.
Cohen finished with 20 points, four rebounds, three blocked shots and two steals for the Wildcats (14-4, 8-0 SoCon), and De’Mon Brooks collected 15 points and nine rebounds.
JP Kuhlman scored 11, and Nik Cochran added nine points and six rebounds.
Mike Groselle led The Citadel (4-14, 1-6 SoCon) with 22 points and five rebounds to go along with three steals and a blocked shot.
Davidson shot 53 percent for the game while holding The Citadel to 35 percent, and the Wildcats gave up just two offensive rebounds in the contest. Davidson out-rebounded the Bulldogs 46-22overall.
The Wildcats gave up one field goal in the first 14 minutes of the game, and The Citadel finished the half4-for-24 from the field. Meanwhile, Davidson hit seven of its first nine shots en route to opening a 30-2 lead with 12:00 left in the period. The ‘Cats owned a 47-16 cushion at halftime.
After the advantage ballooned to 34 early in the second half, The Bulldogs chipped away and cut it to 25 on a Bo Holston triple with 8:41 remaining. But that was as close as The Citadel would get, despite shooting 52 percent in the second period.

The Wildcats open a three-game road swing with a 7 p.m. contest at Chattanooga Thursday Jan. 26.
Game Notes: The Wildcats have won seven straight games… Cohen has scored 20-plus points seven times this season and 13 times in his career… Davidson has won 16 of its last 17 SoCon regular-season games, including 11 straight, dating back to last season… Davidson is 9-1 in Belk Arena this season and has won 15 of its last 16.
