Hough High School’s boys’ soccer team’s quest for a state 4A championship was cut short Wednesday night on home turf as it lost to Ardrey Kell 1-2 in the first round of playoffs. The top-seeded Hough Huskies were favored to win, and went into the game 19-1-2. The Ardrey Kell Knights went in at 14-5, with a No. 4 seed in their region.
The Knights will move on to meet the Porter Ridge Pirates, who defeated Hopewell at Porter Ridge Wednesday, in round 2 of the playoffs.
Also Wednesday, Mooresville fell to No. 1 seed Watauga 2-1 at Watauga, and Lake Norman beat Sun Valley 1-0 at Lake Norman. Both schools are No. 2 seeds. Lake Norman moves on to face No. 1 seed Olympic in round 2.
