MOORESVILLE – Olivia DeMarcus scored in overtime to give Hough a 2-1 victory over Lake Norman a state 4A girls soccer playoff Friday night at Lake Norman. The win sends the Huskies into the women’s 4A regional finals. They will face the winner of Saturday night’s semifinal matchup between Myers Park and West Forsyth. Continue Reading

Hough High’s girl’s soccer team moved another round deeper into the state 4A playoffs Wednesday with a 4-0 victory at Sun Valley. The win sets up a rematch Friday with Lake Norman, the only team to beat the Huskies this year. Lake Norman beat AC Reynolds 4-1 Wednesday to advance. Continue Reading

Baseball teams from both Hough and Hopewell high schools were knocked out of the playoffs with losses Tuesday. Hough’s Huskies, who made it to the NCHSAA 4A finals a year ago, were shut out 15-0 by TC Roberson of Asheville.

Roberson, now 18-1, moves on to the next round Friday vs. Olympic. The loss ended Hough’s season at 16-12.

Olympic advanced with a 5-3 victory over Hopewell. Olympics record stands at 22-7. Hopewell ends the year 16-10.

Davidson men’s basketball team will have a quartet of captains for the 2013-14 season:  De’Mon Brooks, Chris Czerapowicz, Tom Droney and Tyler Kalinoski.  The four captains were selected in a vote by the team and the Wildcats’ coaches, led by Bob McKillop. Continue Reading
