Planning Board recommends Davidson East rezoning

The Davidson Planning Board voted Monday to recommend map and text amendments for the Davidson East site off N.C. 73 to allow a revised mix of retail, residential and office/industrial uses on the property. The amendments next go to the Town Board, which is expected to vote on the changes at its Sept. 13 meeting.

In Monday’s vote, the Planning Board ultimately decided to recommend a version of the map proposed by Community One Bank of Asheboro, which owns most of the site. Read the full story

Community One to offer its ideas for Davidson East site

Community One Bank will present its own version of a rezoning plan for the former Davidson East site off NC 73 at a special meeting of the Davidson Planning Board Tuesday, Aug. 16, and hopes to work out an agreement with the town soon, the bank’s consultant says.

Walter Fields, a planning consultant working for Community One, told the Town Board last week that he’ll present the bank’s proposal for a conceptual plan for the site. “We’re a lot closer together than we’ve ever been,” Mr. Field said. He said the bank has been meeting with town officials and all parties agree they need to take “a more expansive view” of the site.

Resolution puts Davidson East rezoning on hold


Davidson’s Town Board voted 5-0 Tuesday in favor of a resolution that formally delays any rezoning of the Davidson East property, off N.C. 73, until at least Sept. 13, 2011. The vote reflects an agreement with property owner CommunityOne Bank and gives the town time to hire a consultant and develop a new master plan for the 180-acre site. Read the full story

Board to vote on fence rules, N.C. 73 zoning delay


The Town Board on Tuesday will take up a couple of planning matters. One vote would end a 3-year-ban on fences in the old part of town. The board also will consider approving a letter of agreement with Community One Bank that would delay until at least September the town’s planned rezoning of the failed Davidson East property, off N.C. 73.

In a related announcement, the Davidson Planning Board has canceled a special meeting scheduled tonight (Monday, April 11) to take up the N.C. 73 rezoning. Read the full story

Davidson’s Town Board on Tuesday night agreed to defer considering a major rezoning of an area along N.C. 73 east of town that includes the former Davidson East site. The move will give the town time to hire a consultant to draw up a new master plan for the 180-acre site and to adjust proposed zoning map and text amendments. Read the full story

Public hearing resumes Tues. on N.C. 73 zoning


Also Tuesday, board seeks comment and plans vote on new fence standards

Davidson’s Town Board will resume a public hearing Tuesday, March 8, on proposed changes in the town planning ordinance and planning maps that would include a rezoning of the former Davidson East site on N.C. 73. The town said the proposals have been revised since the February meeting.

A second public hearing is also planned at Tuesday’s Town Board meeting, on a proposed changes in the planning ordinance section on fence.  And the board plans a discussion of drive-through windows at commercial developments. Read the full story
