Developers Kevin Mahl and Jamie Rolewicz have formally begun construction on Hyde Park on Bailey, a complex of “upscale, spacious storage suites” at Cornelius Commerce Park, off Bailey Road. They and local leaders celebrated with a groundbreaking Friday, May 17, at the site. The 60,000-square-foot Hyde Park building is the first building on the 35-acre Commerce Park site. Chartwell, a massive home on 31 acres off Avinger Lane in Davidson, is up for sale. Completed in 1992, the house is one of the largest to come on the Lake Norman area market recently, and experts say it could sell to a single owner or to a developer who might subdivide the property for more homes. Michael Jordan, the former NBA star and now Charlotte Bobcats owner, has bought a big house in the Peninsula neighborhood in Cornelius. A trust controlled by Jordan bought the 12,310-square-foot waterfront mansion at 18227 Capstan Greens Road out of foreclosure on Feb. 19, according to real estate records and news reports.
Jordan apparently got a good deal on the home. The Carolinas Multiple Listing Service reported the asking price had been $3.5 million.

Mecklenburg County has hired Ebenezer Gujjarlapudi, aas the new head of its Land Use and Environmental Services Agency), LUESA. Mr. Gujjarlapudi starts Jan. 9, with an annual salary of $145,000. He replaces Cary Saul, who is retiring after more than 30 years with the County. Read the full story
