Hawthorn Retirement Group is proposing this 120-unit retirement residence at the end of Peninsula Drive in the Exit 30 area.
The Davidson Planning board meets Monday, Jan. 28, with an agenda that includes discussion and possible recommendations on signage for MSC Industrial Direct and a master plan for the Davidson Retirement Residence in the Exit 30 area. The board also will review plans for a “pocket neighborhood” on Delburg Street. The meeting begins at 7pm at Davidson Town Hall, 216 S. Main St., Davidson. Read the full story

CORNELIUS - The Cornelius Town board is scheduled to hold a public hearing and vote Monday night on a proposed 88-unit residential development called Bailey Forest off Bailey Road, east of W.A. Hough High School and near Barnhardt Road in Davidson. The project comes before commissioners with two negative recommendations, from the Cornelius Planning Board and the town planning staff. Speaking over the din of construction work, Saussy Burbank/JCB Urban service manager Robert Hoffman said, “We just want to give something back to the community. Times are tight, but it’s the right thing to do.”
Mr. Hoffman and up to 10 other builders from Saussy Burbank and JCB Urban are working this week to present 84-year-old Matty Mundy with a much needed holiday gift. Ms. Mundy has lived in her home on Westside Terrace in Davidson for 20 years, but not been financially able to properly maintain it. Read the full story

The annual Lake Norman Home Builders Association Best of the Lake Gala was held Nov. 2, where Zar Custom Homes was named the Best in Show for a new custom home over $2 million. The annual competition is a showcase for designers, builders and trade craftsmen.
This year’s gala was held at NorthStone Country Club in Huntersville. Charlotte-based Andrew Roby took home six first-place awards, while Davidson-based builder Karl Plattner and Kitchen Vision of Lake Norman both had three firsts. John Marshall Custom Homes of Davidson also picked up a couple of first place awards. Read the full story

Mecklenburg County will close its Land Use & Environmental Services Agency office in Huntersville as of Nov. 30, citing “shrinking budgets and expanding technology.” The county says the duties formerly handled in its north Mecklenburg office, and another closed office in Matthews, now will be handled at the Hal Marshall Services Center in Charlotte.
