Purple is a color that results from mixing red, a color evoking excitement, and blue, which is considered a tranquil color. It has long been associated with royalty, reverence and creativity. Leonardo deVinci included it in his religious paintings. Wagner composed his operas in a room which had purple curtains. And Queen Victoria favored the color for her gowns, thus establishing it as the color to be seen in during her long reign beginning in the mid 1800s. Read the full story

Should Davidson allow drive-up windows at restaurants and shops? The Town Board on Tuesday put that topic on the table for a lively discussion that was part history and part debate over what kind of town Davidson wants to be.
Davidson Town Manager Leamon Brice told the board developers have asked recently whether the town might change its rules to allow drive-throughs. Proposals could be on the way for the Exit 30 area or for yet-to-be designed projects on the horizon in the N.C. 73 area east of town.

Davidson’s efforts to preserve and protect its trees have earned it a new title, as a Tree City.
The designation came at the Tuesday, March 8, Town Board meeting, when Erick Muecke, an urban forestry specialist with the N.C. Division of Forest Resources, delivered news that Davidson has been given a 2011 Tree City USA Award. Read the full story

Tuesday’s town board agenda came out Friday, and among the more intriguing items scheduled is a discussion on drive-through windows at businesses. Town officials say they called for the discussion because new proposals could be on the way soon from developers that could challenge the current ban on drive-throughs. Read the full story

Also Tuesday, board seeks comment and plans vote on new fence standards
Davidson’s Town Board will resume a public hearing Tuesday, March 8, on proposed changes in the town planning ordinance and planning maps that would include a rezoning of the former Davidson East site on N.C. 73. The town said the proposals have been revised since the February meeting.
A second public hearing is also planned at Tuesday’s Town Board meeting, on a proposed changes in the planning ordinance section on fence. And the board plans a discussion of drive-through windows at commercial developments. Read the full story
