A volunteer group of planners, architects and builders has been meeting over the past few weeks to brainstorm concepts for developing the Davidson East site, off N.C. 73. Allen Tate Co. said last week it ranked as the largest real estate company in the Carolinas in 2010, based on closed deals. Citing the REAL Trends 500 report, the company also said it ranks No. 9 among the country’s largest independently owned, non-franchised brokers, and No. 16 among all brokers.

Davidson College officials will be at the Design Review Board Wednesday, May 18, seeking final approval for a new 5-story dormitory that will house 250 students as the college boosts enrollment from the current 1,800 to 2,000 in the coming years. The Town of Davidson planning staff is recommending approval of the plan.
A college spokesman said preliminary work has already begun on the site, a former parking lot on Patterson Court Circle, near other dormitories. Construction is to begin this summer. Read the full story

Community One Bank has begun foreclosure proceedings on the Village of South Main, a failed, partially-constructed townhome complex off South Main Street in Davidson. Only a dozen of the project’s planned 39 units have been built, and none have been sold. The developers have defaulted on about $4 million in loans, according to a notice posted at the site last week.
A foreclosure hearing is planned June 6 at 9 a.m. at Mecklenburg County Superior Court in Charlotte. Read the full story

CHARLOTTE – Residential home sales declined 15.8 percent in April from a year earlier, and they were down 1.1 percent from March, according to figures Tuesday from Charlotte Regional Realtor Association. But home sale prices rose from both a year ago and the previous month, according to the association. Read the full story

But a small Charlotte-area real estate firm is raising eyebrows a-plenty with its effort to sell luxurious mansions with sexy ads. Some say it’s tasteless. The young Realtors behind the plan say it’s working.
