Lincoln County Commissioners on Monday rejected a proposed solar farm on 36 acres near Lake Norman in a vote that followed months of opposition from nearby homeowners who argued it would devalue their property. MOORESVILLE – Speaking over the din of construction work, Saussy Burbank/JCB Urban service manager Robert Hoffman said, “We just want to give something back to the community. A lot of people are in need, so this is the right thing to do.”

Hoffman and several other sub-contractors from Saussy Burbank/JCB Urban got together last week to present 84-year old Margie Meadows a badly needed rehab on her house on Wiggins Road in Mooresville. This was the sixth year in a row that Saussy Burbank/JCB Urban has conducted a “Holiday House” rehab project through the auspices of the Davidson Housing Coalition’s HAMMERS program. Main St.; a look at exterior renovation plans for 208 S. Main St., soon to be a bakery;  and a possible revision to the proposed three-story office building Two Harbour Place, off Griffith Street. The meeting begins at 7pm at Town Hall, 216 S. Main St., Davidson.

The impending expiration of a tax credit for property owners who donate or protect land from development is bringing a flurry of activity this fall for North Carolina conservation groups, including the Davidson Lands Conservancy. The DLC last week announced it has obtained a conservation easement on 27 acres in southern Iredell County that includes a stream, a nearly mature pine-hardwood forest, red foxes and rare orchids and ferns.

The conservancy is not releasing specifics about the family or the property, to protect the site and its flora and fauna. But Roy Alexander, executive director of the DLC, said the family wants to protect the property from the kind of development that happened on a nearby parcel. Read the full story
