The Davidson Planning Board holds its monthly meeting Monday, April 30, with an agenda that includes a discussion and recommendation on proposed changes to the town’s development review process. The meeting is at 7 p.m. at Davidson Town Hall, 216 S. Main St., Davidson.
The board also will discuss and vote on proposed amendments to section 4.16 Conditional Planning Area. The board will also get an update on Huntersville’s NC 73/Poplar Tent Road area planning, and a quarterly permit report.
STREAMLINING APPROVALS?
The Town Board at its April 10 meeting held a public hearing and discussed changes to the town’s Development Proposal Review Process.
Outgoing planning director Lauren Blackburn told the board then that the changes – aimed at streamlining development approvals – would “make or break” deals for two unnamed developments that have been proposed in Davidson.
“This is a substantial change,” she said. The changes could help all developers by trimming months off the process, she said. But some town board members and citizens present worried that it would overly limit the Town Board’s and citizens’ involvement.
Ms. Blackburn proposed replacing multi-day public planning workshops, or charrettes, with smaller, informal public meetings. Several speakers, including Joe Padilla of the Charlotte-based Real Estate and Building Industry Coalition, said they liked the idea of streamlined reviews.
The board agreed to continue discussions about the changes. Download the proposed text of Section 7 of the Planning Ordinance (PDF).
