Town Hall sale offers compost bins, rain barrels

The Town of Davidson is offering a one-day-only truckload sale of Earth Machine Backyard Compost Bins and SYSTERN Rain Barrels on Saturday April 21, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the side/police parking lot at Town Hall.
Both products will be available to area residents on a first-come, first-served basis for a discounted price. Earth Machine Backyard Compost Bins will be available for $47 and SYSTERN Rain Barrels for $58, tax included. This is a significant savings from the regular retail prices of $100 and $120.
Homeowners can use the Earth Machine to compost fruit, vegetable scraps, crushed eggshells, tea bags, coffee grounds and filters from their kitchen. You can then add in layers of mulched leaves, dried grass, garden plants, old potting soil and soft plant stems from the garden. The resulting compost is a rich soil additive for lawns and gardens, improving soil water retention and giving you greener grass, healthier flowers and better fruits and vegetables. You’ll also reduce curbside waste and help diminish climate change.
Using the SYSTERN Rain Barrel helps to reduce water pollution and soil erosion while conserving a valuable natural resource. In the United States alone, outdoor water use can make up between 25% to 58% of overall domestic water demands. Rainwater harvesting can drastically reduce this demand, preserving the municipal water supply for potable drinking water. As global water supplies diminish, rainwater harvesting will become a critical issue.
