Chad Randolph of the Davidson Pointe neighborhood was running on the West Branch Greenway near River Run Monday when he came across another local resident, a brown snake. With a temperature in the low 70s, Mr. Randolph said: “It was so warm that at least one snake was out and about in December.”

Steven Watson of Charlotte photographed this pair of Balk Eagles Thursday. In an email to CorneliusNews.net, he writes:
Spotted a pair of Bald Eagles today while at Lake Norman State Park and snapped these quickly. I wanted so much to change to a longer lens but knew it was too late. As they circled the area 3 times, gaining altitude, I could hear them calling to each other as they disappeared.

I do.
My canine editorial assistant Dodger—a Long-Leggedy Carolina Fooldog Pointer-Hound who can run 32 mph and touch the eight-foot mark upside a tree with a damn squirrel in it—is reminding me to be thankful this Thanksgiving.

Lost on Beaty Street Thursday.
Davidson police found this dog loose on Lakeside Avenue, off Beaty Street Thursday. She appears to be a beagle mix. She is in the town’s temporary holding kennel. Recognize her? Call the department, 704-892-5131.
