CORNELIUS – In honor of National Feral Cat Day, the Lake Norman Lucky Cat Program held its annual jewelry fundraiser, a PawBrokers Party, a jewelry sales fundraiser, on Oct. 18 at the Galway Hooker in Cornelius. the proceeds will help pay to spay and neuter unowned stray and feral cats, and to provide financial aid for residents in need of spay/neuter services.

The party is part of an annual effort to remind people that Trap‐Neuter‐Return (TNR) and other humane programs for feral cats are in the best interest of the cats and the community. Abigail Jennings, founder of the Lake Norman Lucky Cat program, said feral cats are domestic species, but they are not adoptable.

“They live outdoors in family groups called colonies … TNR is the best course of action for feral cats, because it ends the breeding cycle and stops behaviors associated with mating, and ultimately reduces the number of euthanizations in our shelters,” she said in a press release.

National Feral Cat Day was started in 2001 by Alley Cat Allies, the national advocate for feral and stray cats and a recognized authority on Trap‐Neuter‐Return—a program in which cats who live outdoors are humanely trapped and brought to a veterinarian to be evaluated, spayed or neutered and vaccinated.
