When boating, it is important to have proper safety gear for all passengers – even if they happen to be pets. According to the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, just like humans pets need the added protection of non-slip footwear, life preservers, water proof jackets and protective eyewear when they are on a boat.
Even though dogs are swimmers by nature, a life vest is still necessary in larger bodies of water, officials say. The vest keeps the pet afloat at all times and enables it to swim longer.
