Davidson College's announcement last week that it plans to close the Multicultural House at the end of the semester and convert it to a campus pub has sparked controversy on campus. Student organizations committed to diversity have begun an online petition and letter-writing campaign opposing the idea, and they were planning a protest in the Chamber building lobby at 11am Tuesday.

Months of debate among Cornelius commissioners over the NC Department of Transportation's plan to widen I-77 north of Charlotte by adding toll lanes ended dramatically and quickly Monday night in a 3-2 vote in favor of the concept. With the board still one member short because of a vacancy, it was up to Mayor Lynette Rinker to break a 2-2 tie on the issue. See the full story on CorneliusNews.net.

Davidson's Town Board has added a new date to its schedule, an afternoon meeting with town staff on the first Tuesday of every month, beginning this week. Meanwhile, a group of residents recently became the latest class to graduate from the town's Civics 101 citizens academy. Also, the town will start a series of joint meetings next week with merchants, nonprofits and home-based businesspeople, which it's calling "Davidson Connections."
