Davidson College students plan a referendum Monday on Davidson trustees' recent decision to uphold a requirement that the college president be a member of the Presbyterian Church. The planned vote follows statements this week from both the Davidson faculty and Alumni Board opposing the trustees' action.

Police in Concord are seeking a suspect in the robbery of a BB&T bank branch on Harris Road Thursday afternoon. In Davidson over the past week, police responded to more reports of thefts at Davidson Commons shopping center. A man was seriously hurt Thursday evening in a single vehicle accident in Huntersville, and two single-vehicle wrecks caused significant damage to property on Watson Street. Davidson College officials say they'll open a campus pub and coffeehouse next fall in the Union Outpost, a building on Patterson Court near the college dormitories. The announcement follows a debate in recent days over where to put the new gathering place.

Updated Friday, 6:15am - Faculty on Thursday expressed disappointment over the Board of Trustees' recent decision to reaffirm a requirement that the college’s president be affiliated with the Presbyterian Church USA. In a resolution adopted overwhelmingly at a faculty meeting, professors also said they oppose a college requirement that 80 percent of board members be “active Christians.” Meanwhile, the Alumni Board also expressed disappointment.
