Six-year-old Lake Norman Christian School in Davidson celebrated a major milestone recently: sending its first high school graduate into the world. Lydia Vanhoy achieved that status in a May 22 ceremony at Northstone Country Club. Head of School Wes Johnston presided over the event, which introduced several new school traditions. Forty seniors from Davidson Day School’s Class of 2014 celebrated graduation on Friday, May 23, 2014, at Wolter Field, on the school’s Jetton Street campus.
The graduating seniors’ academic and athletic accomplishments earned them about $3.5 million in merit-based aid, according to the school. Awards included a US Air Force Appointment, Kenan Scholarship to Elon University, Football Scholarship to University of Florida, Park Scholarship to NC State University, Football Scholarship to NC State University, and Science Scholarship to University of Richmond. As the daughter of a Gettysburg College professor, Laura Rosenbach spent much of her youth knowing that she would one day go into teaching. With the start of this school year, the lifelong educator – and student – became principal at W.A. Hough High School, a school she says is both larger and more diverse than when it opened in 2010.
She replaced Terri Cockerham, who was promoted to chief human resources officer at Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools. Continue Reading
