The Davidson Town Board and town staff will attend a retreat all day Friday, May 17, in Charlotte to discuss economic develpment. The meeting is 9am to 5pm at the Foundation for the Carolinas, 220 N. Tryon St., Charlotte.

A majority of Davidson College students who voted in a referendum this week said they favor removing a requirement that the college's president be a member of the Presbyterian Church (USA). In the vote on campus Monday, students joined the college's faculty and alumni in conveying their disappointment over a recent Board of Trustees decision not to change the college bylaws.

There was little discussion on Tuesday night when Davidson commissioners held a public hearing on the $9.1 million 2013-14 budget. When Mayor John Woods called for comments from the audience, only resident spoke - asking about trash pickup fees. The plan will guide spending in the fiscal year that begins July 1. It leaves property taxes unchanged and includes money for capital improvements, new equipment and maintenance.

Davidson commissioners voted 4-1 to waive town parking rules and allow construction of a $12 million, four-story senior housing complex on Peninsula Drive in the Exit 30 area. The board also voted 5-0 to designate a Modernist home on Hillside Drive as a historic landmark, and held a public hearing - where nobody spoke - on the $9.1 million 2013-14 budget. SOURCE: Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools CHARLOTTE - The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education on Tuesday unanimously approved a proposed 2013-14 budget request of $365.9 million from Mecklenburg County. The budget request identifies greater choice for students and increased capacity for technology as two key areas of focus, reflecting input from students, parents and the public in general. The district also identifies stronger partnerships with business, the faith community and local organizations as a top priority.
