Potassium iodide pills available, in case of nuclear leak

Mecklenburg County Health Department is again distributing potassium iodide pills to residents within a 10-mile radius of Duke Energy’s McGuire Nuclear Station on Lake Norman. Potassium iodide, also known as KI, is an over-the-counter medication that can protect the thyroid gland from radioactive iodine in the event of a nuclear emergency at McGuire.
