On Sunday, May 5, Summit Coffee and the Birdsnest in downtown Davidson will team up for a day of music in the 2nd annual Robert Whitton Memorial Benefit Concert. Whitton, a popular math professor at Davidson College, died in November 2011 after being struck by a car on Concord Road.

Concord Police have arrested a 46-year-old Mount Holly man on charges of robbing the State Employees Credit Union on April 29. Meanwhile, Davidson College's Spring Frolics last weekend resulted in a handful of citations for possession of marijuana, and five students were treated for excessive alcohol consumption. Elsewhere, vandals spray painted messages at The Swimming Hole on Lorimer Road. Read on for news about those and other incidents, plus recent traffic enforcement.

Davidson Town Day is this Saturday, May 4, from 10am to 7pm, on the Village Green downtown. The day includes an early morning 5K race, a day of fun, food trucks, games and music, and wraps up in the evening with a Concert on the Green - one of two this weekend in Davidson.

Award winners are in the news this week, including Woodlawn School's National History Day team at the state competition, and Davidson Elementary School fifth graders, who were among the award winners at the recent regional Math Fair. Meanwhile, students at Lake Norman Christian School celebrated Earth Day April 22 by planting trees on the campus in Davidson. Click to read those stories and more.
