Joseph Richard Anthony, 59, of Huntersville, N.C., died Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2011. Born Oct. 9, 1952, in Bronxville, N.Y., he was a son of Richard Joseph Anthony and Yolanda Carrotti Anthony of Eastchester, N.Y.

He retired from Union Carbide Corp & Associates as a Financial Analyst after 35 years of service, was co-owner of Johnny Brusco’s Pizza in Concord and a seasonal tax preparer with H & R Block in Huntersville. Continue Reading

Arthur Britton Hanner, 86, of South Hill, Va., formerly of Huntersville, N.C., died Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2011, at his daughter’s home. Born May 11, 1925, in Mecklenburg County, he was the son of the late Arthur Earl Hanner and Edna Lois Alexander Hanner. He retired from the maintenance department of Bowman Transportation Company.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, in the Chapel of Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home. Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Charlotte. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home. Continue Reading

Betty Hooks Ranson, 81, loving wife of Robert Hunter Ranson for 61 years and longtime resident of Huntersville, died Dec. 11, 2011.  She was born Feb. 8, 1930, in Belmont, N.C. to the late Walter Robert and Lola Reid Hooks.

Ms. Ranson grew up in Mooresville and later in Cornelius, where she graduated high school in 1948.  She married Bobby Ranson on August 9, 1950. Continue Reading

Leonard Bernard Washik, 90, of Huntersville, formerly of Nanticoke, Pa., and Gilbert, Pa., died Sunday, Dec. 11, 2011, at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center. He was born in Nanticoke on Sept. 9, 1921, to the late Martin and Victoria Washik.

Mr. Washik served during WWII as a merchant seaman. He retired from Flemming Foods where he worked for 15 years. Continue Reading

Taylor Harrison Brown, 57, of Denver, formerly of Charlotte, died Dec. 10, 2011, at Presbyterian Hospital. He was born in Charlotte, N.C. on April 29, 1954, to the late James and Marie Brown.
 
He is survived by his son, Josh Padgett, of Rock Hill, S.C.; his sister, Berry Bean and husband Jim Fryar, of Cornelius; and niece, Paige Wilson, of Cornelius. Continue Reading

DeForest Peterson, 84, a resident of The Pines at Davidson died Friday, Dec. 9, 2011, at the Levine-Dickson Hospice House. He was a former Funeral Home owner in Valley City, N.D.

Mr. Peterson was president of The Pines Residents Association in 2011 and an active leader of the residence. He served in WWII and the Korean War and retired from the North Dakota National Guard as an Army Lt. Colonel, serving 20 years in the military. Continue Reading
