She was born on October 23, 1927 in Savannah, GA, to the late Gus J. and Ruby Richards Bryan of Opp, AL. Mrs. Thomas was reared in the warmth of family and friends in Southern Alabama. She attended Alabama College for Women, Montevallo, AL and was a graduate of the University of Alabama where she was the recipient of B.A. and M.A. degrees. She followed her careers in journalism and in librarianship in Birmingham, AL, Jacksonville, FL, and West Palm Beach, FL. She retired from her position as head of the Acquisitions Department at the Library of Davidson College in 1992. She has been a Davidson residence since 1976. Born February 16, 1940, in Kittanning, PA, she was a daughter of the late James and Florence Welch Vensel. Robyn Oldham

After a long illness, Robyn Moncrief Oldham died in Davidson on Monday, May 26, 2014. She was 92. Born in Houston, Texas, on Nov. 30, 1921, she was the daughter of Jack Basil and Marguerite May Moncrief and a proud graduate of Rice University. She worked until retirement at Davidson College in the Office of Admission.

Mrs. Oldham moved to Davidson from Houston in 1978, several years after the death of her beloved husband, Harold Kenneth Oldham. There, she joined her two daughters, Harriet and Marguerite, and their husbands and families, and began a new, happy phase of her life, becoming a spirited member of the community. Mrs. Sigmon ran the Coffee Cup Restaurant in Davidson for over 30 years, then worked for Beacon Sweets for over 10 years not retiring until the age of 77.
