James Gant

James Derward Gant, 88, of Charlotte, Servant of the Lord Jesus Christ, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, passed away at Huntersville Hospice House on May 24th, 2014.

He was born April 3rd, 1926 in Statesville, to the late Dewey Spencer and Ruby Busick Gant, and grew up in Huntersville. He proudly served his country in the US Navy during World War II. Read the full story

Michael Scott Sussman, 41, of Charlotte, died Wednesday May 7, 2014. Born Aug. 13, 1972 in Huntington, NY, he was the son of Joan Levine Sussman and the late David Sussman. He was a website and video production manager with the Alliance for Excellent Education, instant replay head technician for the NFL at Panthers Stadium, independent web designer and headed the Alumni Association for Alpha Sigma Phi Faternity at SUNY Plattsburgh. Ronald “Ron” Bruce Shafer, 60, of Charlotte, formerly of Pittsburgh died May 21, 2014 at his residence. Born December 3, 1953 in Pittsburgh, PA he was the son of Geraldine Karnes Shafer of Belmont, PA and the late Walter Shafer.

Ron was a member of Murrysville Alliance Church in Murrysville PA and Speedway HOG. He was employed with NEP Super Shooters, Inc, NASCAR circuit.

Funeral services will be conducted 10:00 am Saturday, May 24, 2014 in the Chapel of Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home with Pastor Daniel Lawrence officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Community Cemetery in Cornelius, NC.

In addition to his mother, Geraldine, Ron leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Carol ; son, Craig Shafer and wife Kristy of Huntersville, NC; daughter, Amanda Robin and husband Matthew of West Palm Beach, FL; granddaughters, Haley and Reilly Shafer.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Murrysville Alliance Church, 4130 Old William Penn Hwy, Murrysville, PA 15668.

Born in Great Lakes, IL, into a Navy family, Paul quickly made friends with his easy conversation and his athletic prowess.  These attributes served him well as his family was stationed all over the US, including Hawaii, moving every two years.  Settling in Michigan, he received his Bachelor of Science degree from Central Michigan University in 1971.
