John Godfrey Fisher Jr., of Davidson, passed away Wednesday, May 27, 2015. He was 90. He was a farmer and former Davidson postmaster, and his family were the namesakes for Fisher Farm Park, off Shearer Road in east Davidson, where he had lived since age 5.
Fisher was born Sept. 29, 1924 in Laurinburg, NC, son of the late John and Katie Fisher.
His brother, Baxter, died in 2009. (See “Obituary: Baxter Fisher, 82″).
The Fisher family established and moved to their farm in Davidson when John was five years old. He was a World War II Navy Veteran. He retired from the US Postal Service serving as postmaster of the Davidson post office for many years.
He was a part time farmer all of his life. He and his brother spent many happy times together doing things around the farm. His favorite past time was doing anything on the farm, from working on a broken piece of machinery to riding a tractor and baling hay.
John was the widower of Hattie “Happy” White Fisher, and they were married for more than 50 years. He is survived by a son John (Cheryl) Fisher, III of Summerton, SC, grandchildren, Jennifer, Eric, Godfrey, Brenne, Wes, Christopher, Amanda and one great grandchild, Amanda, also, a son-in-law, Mike Mundy, sister-in-law, Eileen Fisher, nephew, Daniel Baxter and Jackie Wayne and a niece, Debra Smith.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife listed above, daughters, Frances Hastings and Lynn Mundy and his brother, Baxter Fisher.
A graveside memorial service will be held 4:00 PM, Sunday, May 31, 2015 in Mimosa Cemetery, Davidson, NC. The family will receive friends in the Meeting House of Davidson College Presbyterian Church.
