Opal Overcash Talbert Simms passed from this earthly life to the church triumphant on Oct. 25, 2013, at the young age of 91. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Mollie Overcash; brothers, Hoyle, Keever, Carl and Gilbert Overcash; sister, Edith London; husbands, Floyd Talbert and Jack Simms; sons-in-law, Ray Ketchie and Louis Stutts and granddaughter, Lisa Jones.
Opal is survived by daughters, Jacqulaine “Jackie” T. Stutts of Catawba and Sarah Golden (Wayne) of Mooresville; grandsons, Michael Ketchie (Joyce) of Cleveland, NC, Ritchie Dobbins of Mooresville; great grandchildren, Ben and Ricky Ketchie (Stephanie), Ariel Morrison (Darrell) and Denzel Watkins; great-great grandchildren, Braylen Ketchie and Leah Morrison.
Opal was a lifelong member of Amity Lutheran Church. She was a member of the church women’s organization, first woman to serve on the Church Council at Amity Lutheran, first female vice president of the Council, Sunday school teacher for many years, a member of the church choir, instrumental in getting a community watch program at Amity Lutheran Church and served as President of Organization.
Opal was able to spend her remaining days at her home in part due to dependable and caring caregivers, Anne, Kitty, Barbara, Tonie, Daisy and Tiffany. The last two weeks of her life she spent in Iredell Memorial Hospital. Special thanks to the staff on 3 North for their care and kindness, especially Nancy Gibson. Also thanks to Dr. White and his office staff for their care and support.
Visitation for family and friends is scheduled for Sunday, October 27, 2013 from 6-8 pm at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home. Services are on Monday, October 28 at 2:00 pm at Amity Lutheran Church with Rev. Gene Bruce officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to Amity Lutheran Church, 1367 Ostwalt Amity Rd., Cleveland, NC 27013.
