She was born on Jan. 8, 1944, in Lancaster County, S.C., to the late James D. Horton and the late Nancy Dell Hilliard Horton. She graduated from Heath Springs High School in 1962 and then moved to Charlotte, North Carolina, to attend cosmetology school.
Peggy was a long-time employee of Kemper Unitrin and also retired from General Electric. She was a charter member of Mt Lebanon Baptist Church in Mint Hill.
She was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who loved spending time with family. Her dog, Maggie, brought her much joy. Peggy was also a huge fan of Elvis Presley and enjoyed going to Rick Alviti performances with her neighborhood friends. Her laugh and her ability to make us laugh will truly be missed.
Peggy is survived by her son, Tim Long, and his wife, Cynthia; two granddaughters, Meagan Long and Madison Long; four brothers and their wives, Jim Horton (Brenda), Mike Powers (Ann), Wayne Powers (Bonnie), Harold Powers (Mary); and one sister and her husband, Diane Cauthen (Jack).
